Akhenaten and Nefertiti

This is a painted limestone statuette of Akhenaton, ruler of Egypt during the Amarna period (1365-1349 BC), and his wife, Nefertiti. During this period, Egyptians were more interested in the present than the hereafter, and this created a new, more naturalistic style of sculpture than had been seen previously. Here, although the traditional frontal pose is used, the attempt is made to represent figures that are not idealized.
